Frequently asked questions.
What is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a comprehensive medical system that has been used to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness for over 2,000 years. Disease, defined as disruptions in the natural flow of Qi that lead Yin and Yang to become imbalanced, is said to have three basic causes: external or environmental influences, interior emotions, and lifestyle variables such as diet. TCM uses therapeutic methods to stimulate the body's inherent healing mechanisms. By focusing on the whole person rather than just symptoms, TCM and acupuncture promote overall health and well-being.
Does Acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture needles are thin as hair, you may feel some tingling, heaviness, or soreness around the areas where the needles are inserted but some people won’t feel anything at all! Either way, they’re all normal and positive responses to the treatment.
What conditions can be treated with Acupuncture?
The World Health Organization supports acupuncture, and clinical trials have demonstrated that it is a helpful treatment for numerous ailments, including:
Musculoskeletal pain (muscle/joint pain, arthritis, sports injuries)
Neurological disorders (neuropathy, Bell’s Palsy, post-stroke)
Digestive disorders (IBS, gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, constipation, diarrhea)
Mental health disorders (anxiety, depression, PTSD, stress, insomnia)
Urinary and reproductive disorders (menstrual cramps, irregular menstruation, menopause, male and female infertility)
Autoimmune disorders (Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis)
Side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy (fatigue, nausea, dry mouth, peripheral neuropathy)
Respiratory disorders (COPD, asthma, allergies)
Circulatory disorders (hypertension, anemia, Raynaud’s disease)
Addiction to alcohol, nicotine, and other drugs.
What are the side effects of Acupuncture?
The side effects are minimal, including minor bruising, soreness, and minor bleeding where the needles were inserted. Other than that, our patients will fall asleep or feel completely relaxed during/after their treatments.
How many treatments will I need?
Acupuncture treatments are cumulative and they build on momentum. Depending on your condition, we will determine how often you should be seen based on the length and the severity of the ailments.
